Safety milestone recognised

Date: 8-Aug-2014

On 16 June 2014 Alex Fraser’s Industrial Services team at Port Kembla, New South Wales, reached a milestone. Across all the industrial services sites operated in the past 10 years there has not been one lost time injury recorded. On the Port Kembla site, almost 14 years have passed since a lost time injury.

An event was organised at the Port Kembla site on 9 July with representatives from Bluescope Steel attending. Managing Director Peter Murphy and John Swire & Sons Chairman and CEO Bill Rothery both presented at the event and commended the entire team for their ongoing efforts to improve safety.

Peter said: “It was great to see the Port Kembla team recognised for their efforts. Ten years injury-free is a sign that if you consistently focus on safety, you’ll consistently find ways to improve it.”

Operations Manager Tony Elrington added: “I appreciate that Bill Rothery, Peter Murphy and the Bluescope Steel representatives made time to attend. It shows that safety is of great importance for both Swire and our customer. Although 10 years injury-free is a significant milestone, what we must now focus on is the next 10.”
