Alex Fraser Supplies Melbourne Airport Extension Project

Date: 2-Apr-2014

Melbourne Airport is currently undergoing an expansion that will assist its growth as a major hub for air travel in Australia. The project is part of a proposed investment plan by Melbourne Airport with a budgeted cost of in excess of $1 billion for the next two years alone, making it one of the largest privately funded infrastructure projects currently in the state of Victoria.

The transformation includes a new terminal, ground transport hub and 35 additional aircraft parking spots and taxi lanes. Alex Fraser has been supplying the contracted project developers Fulton Hogan with various civil infrastructure products for the airfield works, including 500 tonnes of 5mm recycled sand and 4,000 tonnes 20mm class 2 x 3% cement treated crushed concrete.

These products are being used for the construction of sub soil trenches and subgrade replacement (aircraft pavements) whilst also being utilised in GSE (General Services Equipment) pavement layers on the “airside” of the Southern Apron Expansion.

As part of the supply contract Alex Fraser is also receiving large quantities of tarmac and concrete from the pre-existing apron pavement, which is being recycled into approved, quality tested road base and aggregates for similar civil infrastructure projects around the greater Melbourne area.
