Slip, Slop, Slap: Keeping Safe in the Sun

Date: 20-Dec-2017

Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. With summer upon us, it’s important to seek protection from the sun and keep hydrated throughout your day.

At Alex Fraser, many of our staff and customers work outdoors. This summer our Safety Toolbox Meetings focussed on hydration and sun protection, highlighting the symptoms of dehydration and sun exposure, and the practical controls in place.

All Alex Fraser worksites provide sunshade and access to fresh drinking water.

To prevent dehydration:

•             Keep a bottle of water with you.

•             Aim to drink at least 8 glasses of water per day.

•             Drink water whenever you eat.

To prevent sunburn, sun stroke and skin cancers:

•             Work in the shade, wherever you can

•             Wear UV protective sunglasses.

•             Slip on sun-protective clothing, covering as much skin as possible.

•             Slop on SPF30+ sunscreen 20mins before you go outside & reapply every 2 hours.

•             Slap on a hat to protect your face, head, neck & ears
