Alex Fraser helps traffic flow project in Brisbane

One of Brisbane’s traffic bottlenecks at Kessels Road and Mains Road is being transformed with help from federal government funding, in association with the Queensland Main Roads department. Due for completion in 2014, Alex Fraser has supplied local contractors Baulderstone with 30,000 tonnes of RM005 subgrade replacement material and 75mm aggregate for crane footings at the site.
Baulderstone Site Manager James Blackmore has been very happy with the characteristics of the recycled materials provided so far. He said: “This was the first time we have used a recycled product since it was approved by Main Roads. We were originally going to rely on the integrity of the sub grade in situ, however, the RM005 has been so successful, we will be using it in all areas of the project.”

Baulderstone has now had some experience in applying the product, as it compacts differently to quarried material. James Blackmore adds: “The fact that it is recycled material, is always an additional environmental benefit, plus we don’t need to cart in as many truck loads due to the density, so we couldn’t be happier.”

Alex Fraser started supplying RM005 to this project in May 2012, and anticipates a continued supply through to November 2013. On completion, an expected 80,000 tonnes of recycled road base will be delivered.
