One Steel Whyalla has named Alex Fraser Demolition its Safety Contractor Group of the Year for its exceptional work on the Whyalla Pellet Plant dismantling project.

Nine other contractors were nominated in the safety award category, however, a One Steel representative said they were extremely impressed with  Alex Fraser’s professionalism, attention to detail and especially their commitment to working safely.

The judges made the following comments in regards to our demolition team’s approach to safety.

“They have rigorous systems supported by a very strong safety culture.  They had no previous experience here in Whyalla, but performed exceptionally during the removal of redundant plant in Pelletising.  Their work crews are highly qualified and experienced in the demolition business.  Employees are empowered to stop any work if they do not feel it is safe.  Their safety record is testament to their approach.”

The safety awards have been running at One Steel Whyalla since 2004 to recognise those making a difference in safety and encourage others to increase their focus on safety through raising awareness.

Alex Fraser has now been nominated to One Steel’s national Safety Excellence Awards in the contractor category.
